Pea Green Soup

In DT on Friday the children had a wonderful time making pea green soup in the cafe. The children chopped courgettes, celery and cabbage then added frozen peas and stock cube to make the soup. They used a food blender to make a smooth soup and then in the afternoon they got to taste it! We were really impressed at how many of the children tried the soup and enjoyed it. We were also excited to see that the broad beans we planted a couple of weeks ago have now sprouted, we are looking forward to seeing how they have grown after the Easter break.

Science week

It is fair to say that 2DT love their science lessons each week so they have thoroughly enjoyed an excuse to do lots of extra science this week! We planted the seeds last week and will be visiting them again each week to notice the changes. The children also designed their own moth and explored the school grounds to see where their moth was camouflaged. As a link to maths, we measured how tall everybody was and then spent some time, discussing the data.

A very busy week!

We were very excited to celebrate World Book Day on Thursday, the costumes were brilliant and Y2 definitely had the most entries for the ‘decorate a spoon’ competition. We enjoyed thinking about all the reading possibilities in our local area by creating a map – places where we could borrow, buy and read books. We spent time on Friday in the school library and looked at all the fabulous ‘decorate a spoon’ entries.

On Friday, we launched the start of Science Week by going in small groups to plant some broad beans with Mrs Wade. We are looking forward to watching their progress over the next few weeks.

Paper fun in Art

We are really enjoying the art focus this half-term. We have started to look at the paper creations from artist Rob Ryan. On Thursday, we had a wonderful time manipulating paper by crushing, tearing and cutting it! We were really happy with the results.

Bird of prey visitors!

What a fabulous start back to school we had on Monday when the children go up close and personal with some very beautiful birds of prey. This has been a fabulous hook as we start to research and learn facts about birds of prey, in particular, owls and red kites. We have been trying to spot the red kites flying overhead all week.

Explorer Day

The children had a great time on Friday when we were able to really bring the topic alive with our Explorer Day. The children showed real perseverance in making a lunar spacecraft, building on the DT skills they had learnt last term when we made bridges. We had great fun learning facts about Neil Armstrong.

Thank you for the huge effort put into costumes and researching famous explorers at home.

Poetry Competition!

This week we have finished our writing unit about Diaries; the children have had great fun thinking of terrible things that could happen to them in their school day and writing about it in a diary extract. Today we launched the new unit in Talk for Writing on Poetry. The children will be entering their poems that they write next week into a competition, we were overwhelmed by their enthusiasm!

Amazing Art

We had a wonderful afternoon on Thursday where we used calm and stormy seas as an inspiration to explore different media. The children had used these skills last year in Y1 and it showed! They were experts in colour wrapping and worked independently, supporting each other when it got tricky.
